Vienna Ditto were thrown into the musical whirlpool in 2009 and almost
drowned under masses of exposure and festival mud. Hitting the BBC Introducing
stage at Glastonbury, the southern trio appeared comfortable and at ease with
their new found glory, this was only their second live gig. A few months down
the line and they're doing sessions for BBC Introducing yet again, in the
studio this time. The Introducing fellas have done their job at exposing the
worms over the past decade, with Vienna Ditto being another can full of what
we've come to expect from a Huw Stephen's funded world of music careers.
Somewhere down the line Vienna Ditto actually went the "Long Way Down" and became somewhat vague and undiscovered for a second time. They
have released two singles since their debut EP in 2011. It's been four years
for their wish of a follow-up self-titled EP to be released. Songs on Vienna
Ditto range from their unique gunge-blues sound to the electronica madness
you'd expect from glitch artists in the 90s.
"Liar Liar" stands out as one of the better tracks on the EP due to its
stamina and changing structure. Of course the gritty guitar riff becomes a key
element on the recording, as does the female fronted vocal and
repetition of the tracks title as backing vocals. "Liar Liar" is like
Lily Allen covering Robert Johnston with a Boss distortion pedal. Vienna Ditto are
constantly improving their sound and expanding their influences as they
progress. They've been working on their live performance since the confident
Glastonbury gig, aiming at an older, more appreciative audience than the simple
loving drive-time Radio One listeners so many bands have grown up to spoon feed garbage.
