Dusky Sunday are an indie folk two piece from Suffolk comprising of vocalist and guitarist Fern Teather, and backing vocal / percussionist Sam Thurlow. They released the debut Gradients in the back end of 2018 - an album of twee acoustics, whistling, and light percussion. The industry doesn't go after Suffolk based singer-songwriters to propel into the mainstream, bu- oh wait Ed Sheeran.. ignore the thought.
What's funny is Sheeran's output wasn't so distinctive from the wishy washy small stages at the Cambridge Folk Festival. It just goes to show what can happen if a set o funforseen cirumstances are met. The simplicity in Sheeran's early material eventually attracted the masses. It's a key ingrediant in all accessible music, especially with folk. You keep things simple, you keep getting heard.
"Oceans" is simple, and it's the simple that you can fall in love with. With folk and the beyond acoustic styles, there'es a very east test to tell whether or not you're entertained - and that's a very forward question: "Is this boring?", this definitely isn't. With Dusky Sunday, although the instrumentals are simplistic in style, (looking at you A to G loop,) the lyrics have depth, as does the structure - orchestrated very well as shown in the video. So far so good from this fun Suffolk duo.
