Tony Elkhoury's music is difficult
to put in to words. He has a clear vision on what he wants to sound like, and
in terms of amateur promotion / production and equipment, his work on Who Knows? is surprisingly gifted. This is akin
to the odd early EP releases of math rock bands and prog bands alike, Tony has
actually created a nifty gritty piece of charming music. It's not the most
melodic or relaxing as expected from the genre niches. This is slightly
progressive, and somewhat jazz-rock oriented.
The track in
question "Nothing (Sort of)" has been plucked from Who Knows? because of the dynamic shift
between course rock to ambience backed by Tony's own vocal which is reminiscent
of the loud vocal screeches of Django Django. The entire lyrics: "I'm sitting here Wrecking my brain in my
attempt to come up with Relate-able quotes and as I do so I
realize that nothing inspires me," the longest segment of lyrics on Who
Knows? utilise and show off Tony's voice. It's hard to tell whether Tony
doesn't like singing, or doesn't want too much singing with his music; but if I
was to be brutally honest, Who
Knows? is crying out for more
vocals, more loud lamented voices in the back. Tony shows off a great combination
of one man band creations on Who
Knows? - and there's
enough room for improvement for Tony to really make an impact independently.
