It's been 20 years since Public Image Ltd released That What Is Not. PiL fizzled out after that release and went on a long hiatus until 2009. This year (2012), PiL embark on a year long tour with small UK festivals being the place to be too get a glimpse of the kooky John Lydon. They will be releasing the above EP, One Drop and their ninth studio album later this year. One Drop being the latest single and track we'll be listening to.
One Drop is a mixture between post-punk and reggae. I could just leave it there and go to bed to be honest.. But I wont. The drumming is exactly the same after 20 years, just without the eeriness vibes PiL 'used' to have. Instead it's been replaced by the sound and vibe of three 50 year olds, arguably past their prime creating a re-hash of PiL's older material. It's hard to criticize this track because it's just not enough. Its not in my face and the structure doesn't create conversation. John Lydon actually delivers a cracking vocal which I didn't expect. His lyrics are focused around his life growing up in London and the surrounding cultures which have an influence here. The bass sounds great, as it did all those years ago. It's the little things that make something big, and I'm afraid this track just doesn't have any little things..
