Where: Stoke-on-Trent
Venue: The Underground
The Temple Hudson Experience is an end of year event involving two, lets
say, elderly men attempting to recapture their youth by playing a batch of
songs, mainly from the 60s and 70s to Journalism students. As the 'band' appeared at a time Justin Beiber would have been
proud of, I couldn't help but raise a smile. This looked like my sweaty Grandad at my sister’s wedding, yet he was received like a god by the obviously very
intoxicated journalism faithful.
The songs including The Rolling Stones' "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and The White
Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" were sung with such a strange attempt at an
American accent, they ended up sounding like they were being sung by Boycie
from Only Fools and Horses.
At one stage I genuinely started to worry for the health of the singer as
he kept an almost creepy wide grin on his face, despite the worrying amount of
sweat coming from each armpit of his, poorly advised, light blue shirt. But they looked as if they were having a good time. And so did the ones who
hadn't decided being outside in the cold Stoke-on-Trent air was a better option.
Yet after all this I couldn't help but feel glad I experienced it, but in a
way I’d be pleased to have witnessed The Rolling Stones before they kicked the
bucket too.
